  • Rockies' Elias Diaz: Resting up Sunday

Diaz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

He'll get a breather for the matinee contest after he started behind the dish in both of the first two games of the series. Jacob Stallings will draw the start at catcher Sunday.

  • Rockies' Brenton Doyle: Getting afternoon off

Doyle is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Doyle had started in every game dating back to July 31, so he's most likely getting some routine maintenance as the Rockies conclude their series with Atlanta. Jake Cave will fill in for Doyle in center field.

  • Rockies' Josh Rogers: Contract selected

The Rockies selected Rogers' contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday.

The left-hander was designated for assignment by the Rockies in mid-July but will return to the big-league roster for Sunday's series finale versus Atlanta. Rogers has a 6.75 ERA over 9.1 frames in the majors this season and should fill a low-leverage role out of the bullpen.

  • Rockies' Dakota Hudson: Out with elbow inflammation

The Rockies placed Hudson on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right elbow inflammation.

Hudson was called up for his 18th start of the season Saturday versus Atlanta and surrendered five runs on three hits and four walks over 2.2 innings. The 29-year-old likely won't be reinserted into the rotation once healthy given his 6.17 ERA and 49:50 K:BB this season.

  • Rockies' Sam Hilliard: Huge performance in loss

Hilliard went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, five RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's loss to Atlanta.

Hilliard was locked in Saturday, launching a three-run shot on a hanging curveball from Max Fried in his first at-bat before smacking a two-run double with two outs in his second trip to the plate, tying the game at 5-5. The outfielder tallied three hits in the contest, which marked a season high, as did his five RBI on the night. The multi-hit effort was his third of the campaign.

  • Rockies' Brenton Doyle: Two hits, stolen base in loss

Doyle went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's loss to Atlanta.

Doyle singled in his first at-bat but was left stranded as the Rockies failed to capitalize on having the bases loaded early. The outfielder then added an RBI single in the sixth to tie the game at 8-8 before swiping his 22nd bag of the season. Doyle has now posted multiple hits in back-to-back games, though he's still batting just .189 (7-for-37) in August with two homers, five RBI and four runs scored. He's also driven in at least one run in three straight contests.

  • Rockies' Dakota Hudson: Beat up in third inning

Hudson did not factor into the decision in a loss to Atlanta on Saturday, allowing five runs on three hits and four walks over 2.2 innings while striking out one.

Hudson allowed the leadoff man to reach in each of his first two innings of work but was fortunate to draw double play balls on both occasions to help him escape unscathed. Things would begin to unravel for the right-hander in the third, however, as he issued walks to three of the first five batters he faced before eventually surrendering a two-out grand slam to Matt Olson. Hudson has now issued three or more walks in each of his last three starts for Colorado (dating back to June 28) and owns an 8:13 K:BB over that stretch. He's also failed to make it through five innings in each of his last two outings, though both of those have come at Coors Field.

  • Rockies' Cal Quantrill: Start pushed back

Quantrill has general forearm soreness and will not start Monday's game against Arizona as previously scheduled, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

The Rockies had already pushed back Quantrill's start from Saturday to Monday, but it's now unknown when he'll make his next start. Quantrill's forearm soreness stems from his previous start, when he allowed three runs across 4.1 innings against the Padres. The left-hander should be expected to undergo further testing in the coming days, but for now, it doesn't seem Quantrill will need an IL stint.

  • Rockies' Chasen Shreve: Dropped from 40-man

The Rockies designated Shreve for assignment Saturday.

In the span of just five days, Shreve has signed a minor-league deal with the Rockies, been selected to the MLB roster, and lost his spot on the 40-man after making one appearance with Colorado. The 34-year-old owns a 2.65 ERA and 0.85 WHIP through 34 Triple-A innings, which could potentially help him draw interest on the waiver wire from bullpen-needy teams.

  • Rockies' Dakota Hudson: Officially promoted

The Rockies selected Hudson's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque ahead of his start Saturday versus Atlanta.

Hudson will come up from the minors to fill the hole in the Rockies' rotation left by Ryan Feltner (shoulder), who landed on the injured list Thursday. The 29-year-old Hudson owns a 5.84 ERA through 86.1 innings in the majors this season, and he'll have the disadvantage of pitching in Coors Field during his first start back in the big leagues. Chasen Shreve was DFA'd in a corresponding move.

  • Rockies' Brenton Doyle: Joins 20-20 club with homer

Doyle went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a double and an additional run scored in Friday's 6-5 victory against Atlanta

The Colorado center fielder drove home the team's first runs of the game when he slammed a 432-foot homer off Grant Holmes in the third inning. With that long ball, Doyle posted the 16th 20-20 season in Rockies history. The 26-year-old has been a breakout fantasy star this season, hitting .263 with 64 runs scored and 58 RBI while going 21-for-26 in steals.

  • Rockies' Victor Vodnik: Secures seventh save

Vodnik picked up the save in Friday's 6-5 victory over Atlanta, working around a leadoff single to pitch a scoreless inning. He struck out one.

After allowing a leadoff single to Jarred Kelenic to open the ninth inning, Vodnik promptly retired the next three batters in a 17-pitch appearance. This outing was a welcome sight after the 24-year-old suffered a loss while coughing up three runs Wednesday against the Mets. He has now collected five of the last six Colorado saves since the All-Star break and appears to be in the driver's seat for the closer role over Tyler Kinley. Vodnik has pitched to 3.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB across 18 innings since July 1.

  • Rockies' Tanner Gordon: Impressive in no-decision

Gordon did not factor into the decision in Friday's win over Atlanta, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks over five innings. He struck out seven.

It looked like the rookie right-hander was in for a long night after allowing a titanic 448-foot solo homer to Marcell Ozuna in the first inning. However, Gordon settled in nicely after that and collected a career-high seven punchouts in an 89-pitch performance. Overall, the 26-year-old has pitched to a 6.15 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 23:3 K:BB across 26.1 innings this season. He lines up to make his next start against the Diamondbacks on the road next week.

  • Rockies' Ryan Feltner: Gets clean MRI

An MRI on Feltner's throwing shoulder came back negative Friday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

The right-hander was placed on the IL on Thursday with a strained right shoulder, but Friday's MRI confirmed he isn't dealing with any structural damage. The team is optimistic that Feltner might return after the minimum 15 days, meaning the 27-year-old could rejoin the rotation as soon as Aug. 23. In the meantime, Dakota Hudson and Tanner Gordon will hold down the back end of the Rockies' rotation.

  • Rockies' Dakota Hudson: Starting Saturday

The Rockies will select Hudson's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque and have him start Saturday's game against Atlanta, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

The loss of Ryan Feltner (shoulder) created an opening in Colorado's starting rotation, and Hudson will be the choice to fill the gap until Feltner is able to return. The 29-year-old has started 17 games for the Rockies this season, but he was outrighted to Albuquerque in early July after accumulating a 5.84 ERA and 1.64 WHIP, both of which represent the worst marks of his seven-year MLB career. Cal Quantrill, who was originally slated to start Saturday's game, will have his next start pushed back to Colorado's next series in Arizona.

  • Rockies' Tanner Gordon: Staying in rotation

Gordon is scheduled to start Friday's game against Atlanta at Coors FIeld.

He'll be making his second straight turn through the Colorado rotation, and Gordon looks like he'll be sticking around for the foreseeable future with Ryan Feltner (shoulder) going on the injured list Thursday and German Marquez (elbow) having been ruled out for the season. Over his first four big-league outings, Gordon has gone 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB in 21.1 innings.
