  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Returns to bench role

Barnes is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Barnes picked up his 32nd start of the season in Saturday's 4-1 win, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts while filling in for a resting Will Smith. With Smith back in action for Sunday's series finale, Barnes will return to his usual bench role.

  • Dodgers' Nick Ahmed: Fading into reserve role

Ahmed is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

After signing a one-year contract with the Dodgers on July 24, Ahmed had started at shortstop in 11 of the club's ensuing 12 games, but he's faded into a reserve role following Miguel Rojas' return from the injured list Wednesday. Now on the bench for the third time in four contests, Ahmed could be a candidate to lose his spot on the roster once the Dodgers return the likes of Tommy Edman (wrist), Max Muncy (oblique), Chris Taylor (groin) and Mookie Betts (hand) from the injured list.

  • Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Taking seat against lefty

Heyward is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

The lefty-hitting Heyward started the previous three games but will hit the bench Sunday with southpaw Bailey Falter taking the mound for the Pirates. Andy Pages will shift to right field for the series finale while Kevin Kiermaier starts in center. Heyward will likely lose hold of his strong-side platoon role when Mookie Betts (hand) returns from the injured list later this month, as manager Dave Roberts has already said that Betts will be deployed primarily in right field upon his activation.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Sitting versus southpaw

Lux is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Lux went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI during Saturday's contest but will sit for the series finale as lefty Bailey Falter pitches for Pittsburgh. Amed Rosario will start at the keystone and bat fifth Sunday.

  • Dodgers' Landon Knack: Promoted Sunday

The Dodgers recalled Knack from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday.

The 27-year-old is taking the 26-man active roster spot of River Ryan, who landed on the injured list Sunday due to an elbow injury. Knack has started in eight of his nine big-league appearances this season and has a 3.07 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 42:12 K:BB across 44 innings. He's likely to fill a long-relief role while he's up with the big club.

  • Dodgers' River Ryan: Done for season

The Dodgers placed Ryan on the 15-day injured list Sunday with right forearm tightness, and manager Dave Roberts said the rookie will miss the rest of the 2024 season, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Ryan is undergoing an MRI on Sunday to determine the full extent of the forearm injury that he suffered in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Pirates, but the Dodgers have apparently seen enough to rule him out for the rest of the campaign. It's a tough break for the 25-year-old, who was called up for his big-league debut in late July and posted a 1.33 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 18:9 K:BB over 20.1 innings through his first four starts.

  • Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Resumes rehab stint

Edman (wrist) went 1-for-3 with a run in a minor-league game with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.

Edman's previous rehab appearance had come July 28 when he was still in the Cardinals organization. The utility man was traded to Los Angeles on July 29, and the team waited until Edman was ready to play the field (he had been used exclusively at DH in his prior rehab assignment) before having him return to game action. Per Jim Bowden of The Athletic, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Sunday that Edman is expected to be activated during the club's next homestand, which begins Aug. 19 against the Mariners.

  • Dodgers' Max Muncy: Knocks double in first rehab game

Muncy (oblique) went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.

Muncy performed well in his first game action since May 15. The third baseman is working his way back from an oblique injury and subsequent rehab that progressed slowly and at times was described as "stagnant." According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Sunday that Muncy is expected to be reinstated during the club's next homestand, which begins Aug. 19 versus the Mariners.

  • Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Solves Skenes on Saturday

Lux went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Saturday's 4-1 win against the Pirates.

MLB hitters have had a hard time figuring out Pirates rookie phenom Paul Skenes this season, but Lux had no such trouble, doubling home a run against the All-Star hurler in the first inning and adding a two-run single in the third. It was the continuation of what has been a resurgent second half of the season for Lux -- after batting just .213 prior to the All-Star break, he's posted a .383/.457/.650 slash line with three home runs, 15 RBI, nine runs and one stolen base since. While Lux's strikeout rate has jumped a bit to 27.1 percent during the second half, his overall production has been a big boost to the Dodgers. With Mookie Betts moving back to right field when he returns to the lineup Monday, Lux should continue to be a lineup regular moving forward.

  • Dodgers' Kevin Kiermaier: Picks up steal in win

Kiermaier went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Saturday's win over the Pirates.

Kiermaier led off the bottom of the seventh with a single before going on to swipe his sixth bag of the campaign. It marked the outfielder's first hit since being acquired by the Dodgers at the start of August, while the stolen base was his first since June 19 against the Red Sox (as a member of the Blue Jays). Though not an everyday player, Kiermaier could prove to be useful for the Dodgers at times, given his defensive prowess and speed on the basepaths.

  • Dodgers' Teoscar Hernandez: Stays hot in win

Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a double, a solo homer and three runs scored in Saturday's win over the Pirates.

Hernandez doubled in the opening frame and came around to score the Dodgers' first run of the contest on a two-bagger from Gavin Lux with two outs in the frame. The outfielder added an infield single in his next trip to the plate before crushing a 427-foot solo homer off Paul Skenes in the fifth to extend Los Angeles' lead. It marked Hernandez's fourth multi-hit effort this month and his eighth consecutive game with at least one knock. He's now batting .438 (14-for-32) in August with four homers, five doubles, seven RBI and 12 runs scored.

  • Dodgers' Landon Knack: Slated for call-up

The Dodgers are expected to recall Knack from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

With River Ryan (forearm) heading to the IL after suffering an in-game injury Saturday, Knack will join the 26-man roster to pitch out of the bullpen. Knack has started in eight of his nine appearances for the Dodgers this season, logging a 3.07 ERA across 44.0 innings. He should handle a long-relief role during his stint in Los Angeles.

  • Dodgers' River Ryan: IL stint necessary

Ryan (forearm) will undergo an MRI on Sunday to discern the severity of his injury and will be placed on the injured list, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Ryan was removed from Saturday's start against the Pirates in the fifth inning due to forearm tightness, and the injury is more significant than initially expected. The 25-year-old has shined in limited playing time for the Dodgers, posting a 1.33 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 15.2 innings, but his impressive rookie campaign will be paused for an uncertain amount of time. Sunday's MRI should give fantasy managers a more accurate timeline for Ryan's absence.

  • Dodgers' River Ryan: Lifted from start

The Dodgers removed Ryan from Saturday's game against the Pirates due to right forearm tightness, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

The Dodgers' training staff met Ryan on the mound in the middle of an at-bat in the fifth inning, and Ryan was ultimately removed from the contest due to pain in his right forearm. The 25-year-old threw 4.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts and four hits allowed before exiting. Ryan should undergo further testing in the coming days, at which point the severity of the injury should be more clear.

  • Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto: Facing hitters next weekend

Yamamoto (triceps) will throw a bullpen Tuesday and then rejoin the Dodgers during their three-game series against the Cardinals that starts Aug. 16 to throw live batting practice, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Yamamoto has completed multiple bullpens and, assuming all goes well Tuesday, will advance to facing batters for the first time since going on the injured list June 16. The 25-year-old is still multiple weeks away from pitching in a game, and it's likely he'll require a minor-league rehab assignment. Yamamoto worked up to 30 pitches in his most recent bullpen session.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Confirmed for Wednesday start

Manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that Buehler (hip) will return to the Dodgers' rotation Wednesday against the Brewers, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Buehler was initially targeting a start Thursday, but he'll instead face Milwaukee on Wednesday for his first MLB appearance since June 18. Buehler threw 85 pitches in his last rehab start and shouldn't be on a pitch count. Before going on the injured list, the 29-year-old logged a 5.84 ERA with a 31:10 K:BB across 37.0 innings.

  • Dodgers' Andy Pages: Idle Saturday

Pages isn't in the Dodgers' lineup Saturday versus Pittsburgh.

Pages had his four-game hitting streak snapped with an 0-for-3 performance Friday, though he was able to draw a walk and score a run. Kevin Kiermaier will take his place in center field Saturday and bat eighth.

  • Dodgers' Miguel Rojas: Out of Saturday's lineup

Rojas isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates.

Rojas has gone 2-for-8 with two RBI since returning from the injured list Wednesday, and he'll get a chance to rest Saturday while Nick Ahmed starts at shortstop and bats ninth.
