  • Twins' Austin Brice: Calls end to playing career

Brice announced Wednesday via social media that he has retired from professional baseball.

The 32-year-old's announcement came two days after Triple-A St. Paul placed him on its voluntarily retired list. The right-hander didn't see any big-league action this season between stints in the Phillies and Twins organizations and turned in an ugly 12.00 ERA over 15 innings between the Triple-A and Double-A levels. Brice previously made 144 appearances in the majors from 2016 through 2022, logging a 5.12 ERA while collecting four wins and 16 holds over 168.2 innings across stops with the Marlins, Reds, Red Sox and Pirates.

  • Twins' Zack Weiss: Activated and outrighted

The Twins activated Weiss (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday and outrighted him to Triple-A St. Paul, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Weiss has been out all season with a teres major strain in his right shoulder. He's healthy now, after having allowed six runs with an 8:3 K:BB over eight innings during his rehab assignment, which included stops at three affiliates. The Twins didn't have room on Weiss from the 40-man roster, but he'll remain in the organization as bullpen depth at St. Paul.

  • Twins' Carlos Correa: Not playing in All-Star Game

Correa (heel) was removed Monday from the American League All-Star Game roster and was replaced by the Rangers' Corey Seager, the Associated Press reports.

Though Correa is still expected to attend All-Star festivities in Arlington, Texas this week, his removal from the roster comes as little surprise after he missed the Twins' final two games before the break due to plantar fasciitis in his right heel. Dan Hayes of The Athletic relays that Correa's latest case of plantar fasciitis isn't as severe as his bout with the injury to his left foot during 2023 season, but it's not yet clear whether Correa will be back in action when the Twins return to action Saturday versus the Brewers.

  • Twins' Zebby Matthews: Promoted to Triple-A

The Twins have promoted Matthews from Double-A Wichita to Triple-A St. Paul, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

It will be his third level this season following a dominating run between Wichita and High-A Cedar Rapids that saw him post a 1.85 ERA and 91:6 K:BB over 78 innings. The 24-year-old has emerged as one of the Twins' better pitching prospects.

  • Twins' Caleb Boushley: Outrighted to Triple-A

The Twins outrighted Boushley to Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Boushley was removed from the 40-man roster over the weekend but has cleared waivers and will stick around in the organization. The 30-year-old has spent virtually all of 2024 at St. Paul, where he holds a 4.68 ERA in 16 starts.

  • Twins' Rylan Bannon: Dealt to Minnesota

The Twins acquired Bannon from the Mets on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old journeyman didn't earn a call-up to the Mets before the All-Star break, despite getting on base at a .392 clip while slugging 15 home runs and seven stolen bases across 342 plate appearances at Triple-A Syracuse. The banged-up Twins could have a greater need for a utility player like Bannon, though he'll most likely report to Triple-A St. Paul to begin his stint with a new organization.

  • Twins' Jaime Ferrer: Nabbed by Twins in fourth round

The Twins have selected Ferrer with the 126th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Ferrer has consistently hit for average and reached base at a strong clip throughout his collegiate career at Florida State and even in the Cape Cod League. He took a step forward with his power production in 2024 by popping 22 homers, and translating that to pro ball will be the key to him carving out a role at a corner outfield position.

  • Twins' Caden Kendle: Nabbed by Twins

The Twins have selected Kendle with the 159th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Kendle was taken in the 10th round last year but improved his stock by returning to UC Irvine. He hit .387/.479/.590 this spring with a nice combination of power and speed. At 5-foot-11, 200 pounds, the muscular Kendle gets some Tyler O'Neill body comps.

  • Twins' Khadim Diaw: Goes to Minnesota in Round 3

The Twins have selected Diaw with the 96th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

While Diaw's arm strength and agility should allow him to begin his professional career at catcher, he lacks extensive experience at the position and could eventually shift to the outfield if he can't stick behind the dish. Regardless, Diaw's bat will be his main draw rather than his defense, as the 21-year-old boasts solid bat-to-ball skills and is able to generate a modicum of pop from his 6-foot-1, 215-pound frame.

  • Twins' Dasan Hill: Drafted by Twins

The Twins have selected Hill with the 69th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

An uber-projectable prep lefty out of Texas, Hill is listed at 6-foot-5, 165 pounds, so he'll need to get to work on adding muscle to his frame. He already sits in the low-90s with his fastball (touches 96 mph) while showcasing two high-quality breaking balls, but this jump in stuff happened only recently after a growth spurt.

  • Twins' Billy Amick: Falls to 60th overall

The Twins have selected Amick with the 60th overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Amick transferred from Clemson to Tennessee for his junior year in order to play third base regularly, and he helped lead the Volunteers to a College World Series title. An aggressive hitter who is power-over-hit, Amick's 32 percent chase rate and 70 percent contact rate are troubling marks for a college hitter. Naturally, he does a ton of damage on contact, bashing 23 homers in 65 games as a junior with an elite 110 mph, 90th percentile exit velocity. It's not a lock that he'll be able to stick at third base long term, but he should stick there early in his career. Amick is not a good athlete, and he has the potential to be a Mike Moustakas type for fantasy.

  • Twins' Jhoan Duran: Takes loss Sunday

Duran (5-4) allowed an unearned run on one hit without retiring a batter to take the loss Sunday versus the Giants.

Duran gave up a triple to Mike Yastrzemski to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning, and it turned into a run after Brooks Lee's relay throw ended up in the dugout. It's a tough way for Duran to take a loss, which also ended his 7.2-inning scoreless streak, but it won't hurt his ERA, which remains at 2.93 to go with a 0.98 WHIP and 29:10 K:BB through 30.2 innings. Since Duran was pitching in a tied game before giving up the run, he also will avoid taking his second blown save of the year, and his status as the Twins' primary closer is not in question.

  • Twins' Chris Paddack: Takes no-decision Sunday

Paddack allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Sunday.

Paddack put in another decent effort, but he couldn't match Blake Snell's seven innings of one-hit ball. Paddack has allowed four runs (three earned) over 10 innings across two starts since he returned from a bout of arm fatigue. The right-hander has a 4.99 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 79:21 K:BB over 88.1 innings through 17 starts this season. While his results aren't great, Paddack's spot in the rotation doesn't appear to be in any immediate danger since he's stabilized his pitching following his injured-list stint.

  • Twins' Kyle DeBarge: Snagged by Twins

The Twins have selected DeBarge with the 33rd overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

DeBarge is a high-contact hitter from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He is a plus runner with a plus arm who should stick at shortstop, although the bat might be a little light for an everyday role. He hit 31 homers in 176 games during his college career, with 21 of those homers coming this spring.

  • Twins' Kaelen Culpepper: First-round pick by Minnesota

The Twins have selected Culpepper with the 21st overall pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft.

Culpepper is more floor than ceiling, as he has a strong hit tool and could hold his own defensively at any infield position, but he lacks impactful power or speed. The righty-hitting infielder has hit for a very high average in short stints with Team USA and in multiple college postseason runs. He slashed .328/.419/.574 with 11 home runs and 17 steals in 61 games this spring for Kansas State. Culpepper has a flat swing and had zero home runs with three doubles in 17 Cape Cod League games last summer and hit 26 homers in 152 games for KSU. His stolen-base totals are the product of opportunistic reads more than pure speed, as he is just a 50-grade runner. Third base would be his most obvious home if not for his lack of power, and he may eventually move around the diamond as needed in a super-utility role.

  • Twins' Trevor Larnach: Getting day off against lefty

Larnach is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

With southpaw Blake Snell on the hill for the Giants, the lefty-hitting Larnach will retreat to the bench for the series finale. Matt Wallner will replace Larnach in left field and will bat ninth.

  • Twins' Byron Buxton: Sitting in second straight contest

Buxton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Buxton is on the bench for a second straight contest to close out of the Twins' first-half schedule, but manager Rocco Baldelli hasn't suggested that an injury is behind the consecutive absences. However, Buxton notably collided with the outfield wall while pursuing a flyball in Friday's 7-1 loss, and though he was able to finish the game, it's possible he could be dealing with some bumps and bruises. In any case, the Twins will take advantage of the upcoming All-Star break to build in some extended rest for Buxton, who hasn't been the most durable player over his career. Before sitting out Saturday's 4-2 win, Buxton had been swinging a hot bat in July, slashing .452/.500/.742 over eight games so far this month.
