Not so fast

The Globe's Gary Washburn says that the 76ers and Knicks re the big winners in free agency so far. I'm not buying it.

Let's talk about the Knicks. Sure they traded for Mikal Bridges to join fellow Vanderbuilt alums; but they also lost Isaiah Hartenstein. Hartenstein was very important to them in the second half the season. They will need to find a replacement for him before they can claim that they are better than last May.

The 76ers replaced Tobias Harris with Paul George. I think George is an upgrade, but by how much? Harris has not been the "problem" for this team - Joel Embiid's health is. Bottom line is that they're better but not by a whole lot.

No other team in the East has made significant upgrades (KCP to Orlando?) so the Celtics keeping its young roster in tact must be viewed as the best "free agency" move.
