Today was a busy day on the Roma rumor mill, with plenty of players linked to the Gialllorossi. So, let's hit you with a handful that caught our eye on a busy Tuesday.

Chiesa the Dream

The name that has drawn the most attention early in this calcio mercato is Federico Chiesa of Juventus. It’s been reported that the Juve hierarchy, including new manager Tiago Motta, considers Chiesa expendable and the 26-year-old Italian likely won’t renew with the Bianconeri.

With Chiesa on an expiring contract, he could potentially be had at a cut rate with Corriere dello Sport bandying about a €25 million starting point to open negotiations. Roma is said to be the club with the most interest as the Giallorossi look to beef up De Rossi’s roster with capable wingers.

With Chiesa on international duty for Euro 2024, any potential transfer likely won’t move too quickly. Consequently, expect plenty of rumors linking Chiesa to Roma and others in the coming weeks, especially if Ghisfoli targets Chiesa as his marquee summer signing.

Left-Back Landing?

With a new contract for Leonardo Spinazzola looking increasingly unlikely, Roma will need a second left-back to pair with Angeliño, who was recently signed on a permanent deal. Today, two new names sprung up as potential options.

One of those players is someone very familiar to Romanisti: Emerson Palmieri. Palmieri spent two and a half seasons with the Giallorossi from 2015-2018 before he was sold to Chelsea. Since his time at Roma, Emerson has spent all but one season in the Premier League—the last two at West Ham. Now, Emerson is being linked with a surprise return to the Capital. However, no price tag or details of a potential move were stated.

In addition to Emerson, Argentine Nicolas Tagliafico is also being linked with Roma. The 31-year-old World Cup champion has spent the last two seasons with Lyon after a long spell with Ajax. On an expiring contract, it’s rumored that Tagliafico could be had for €5-6 million. Tagliafico would offer an experienced option who has also played center back.

Center Back Depth Being Built

With Leeds United missing out on promotion to the Premier League, it looks likely that Roma will try to extend Diego Llorente’s stay in the Italian Capital. Gianluca Di Marzio reports that this could be Ghisfoli's first move as he begins to build a squad for De Rossi. Di Marzio reports that the formula for a potential return to Rome remains to be seen, but the Roma CT wants him back.

In addition to a Llorente return, Corriere della Sera is linking Roma with a surprise free agent signing: Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund. The 35-year-old Hummels has spent nearly two decades with Dortmund after joining as an 18-year-old in 2006. With 367 club appearances and 78 international appearances for Germany, Hummels offers a wealth of big-match experience. Would Roma actually be able to land a player like Hummels in the twilight of his career? That remains to be seen, but this rumor is one we didn’t see coming.
