CLEVELAND, Ohio – With the Browns game against the Steelers falling on Thursday evening, the city has adjusted the rules for tailgaters in Cleveland’s Muni Lot.
And fans may encounter traffic congestion coming into downtown from the tail end of rush hour, coupled with traffic for the Cavaliers game against the Miami Heat.
Kickoff for the Browns game is 8:20 p.m. at First Energy Stadium. At the other end of downtown, the Cavaliers will tip off at 6 p.m. in Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
Tailgaters will be able to get into the eastern end of the Muni Lot beginning at 2 p.m. The western end, which is used by commuters, will be open to tailgaters beginning at 5 p.m.
The city of Cleveland has rules for tailgaters in effect for all Browns home games. Here’s some of the highlights:
- Propane grills only. No charcoal and no open-pit fires.
- Saving spaces is prohibited.
- Attendees will be charged $25 per space for all occupied parking spaces.
- No in-and-out privileges from the lot.
- No private latrines (portable latrines are available in the lot).
- No alcohol.
A full list of rules is posted on signs and also will be distributed in flyers to vehicles when they enter the lot. Violation of the regulations may result in fines and ejection from the premises.
The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, meanwhile, reminds fans that it will provide Rapid service to the stadium and to the Muni Lot for tailgate parties on gameday.
RTA riders can park free in one of more than than 8,000 parking spots at stations along the Red, Blue or Green Lines.
Rapid riders can transfer to the Waterfront Line from all other Rapid lines at the Terminal Tower station.
RTA plans to have its “VICTORY” Bus at the Muni Lot, where fans can get hot dogs, pop, prizes, and more.
Fans can also use RTA to travel to the Cavalier’s game. From Tower City station, head to the main level and take the walkway directly to Rocket Mortgage Field House.
Tickets can be purchased on mobile devices using the RTA mobile ticketing app. An All-Day pass is available for $5.50. Round trip tickets may be purchased for $5 in cash at the following stations: Brookpark, Puritas, Triskett, Louis Stokes-Windermere and West 3rd Street.
