Brunswick council approves purchase of service department equipment

BRUNSWICK --- With asphalt paving season upon us, city council unanimously approved an emergency resolution June 27 authorizing the purchase an asphalt roller for an amount not to exceed $32,297.

The emergency clause allows the purchase to take place immediately.

"Our current asphalt roller is a 1990, so 26 years old," said Service Director Paul Barnett. "It is definitely past its useful life."

Two other budgeted service department requests - for a $322,515 mounted sewer cleaner, and a $46,776 mounted trailer leaf vacuum, were moved to second reading by council.

Barnett said the need for the other two purchases are not as imperative as that of the asphalt roller.

"The ones we currently have are still old, but still running," he said. "We were not able to even get the asphalt roller running without putting thousands of dollars in repairs into it."
