Local company has sights set on victory :Whit & Whimsey

While most of Northeast Ohio was celebrating the Cavs win over Toronto, one local business got right to work. Bullseye Activewear's crew didn't get out of work until 4:30 a.m. after the final buzzer, because the crew was printing 2,400 Cavs Eastern Conference Championship shirts. The shirts are sold all across the area. Now let's hope this Brunswick company can print the national championship T-shirts for our Cavs.

No rest for these volunteers: Most high school students wanted to sleep in on their first days of summer vacation but many band members got up early on their first day of summer break to begin phase one of the music library renovations at Brunswick High School.

See some great pictures: Many people have seen the work of Medina TV's Miles Reed. Recently, I noticed a couple of great videos: Zebras, impalas, giraffes....the animals of the African grasslands and pygmy Marmosets, the tiny monkeys of the Amazon jungles. Miles tells me that if you'd like to see them, just go to Facebook and make a friend request.

In addition to the beautiful pictures, he adds some great facts like: "When filming the giraffe I stood on a termite mound to get the close up headshot. It was hard to stay still with termites crawling up my legs. Often you must choose between comfort and getting the shot."

Or this: On average an adult pygmy marmoset weighs 4.20 oz. I found these in the Peruvian Amazon. The holes in the bark of these trees were made by this little monkey. The open wounds of the bark leak a sticky sap that is the main source of food for the pygmy marmoset. As a side note, notice the sounds of the Amazon. Turn up the audio.....it's the music of the jungle!"

Miles is a Hinckley resident. His Facebook page is: facebook.com/profile.php?id=1421552066.

Cicadas are communicating: Alice Tyrpak's family is being serenaded by the cicadas and even took photos of them in her Brunswick yard, telling us "They're everywhere! Their singing is getting louder every day, we're waiting for that decibel level that exceeds a jackhammer!" Thankfully, my yard is quieter. Wonder if they'll be around to welcome delegates to the RNC ...or maybe Lake Erie Mayflies! (I hope not -- I'd hate for that to be someone's memory of Cleveland).

Would you believe the mayflies have their own web page? Just go to mayflynews.net.

Did you see the story? On May 30, WKYC-TV did a story about the Coast Guard and water safety featuring US Coast Guard officer Nick Grant. That made Brunswick's Tina and Dave Grant very happy parents, and rightfully so. He did a great job.

It's chicken dinner time: Members of the congregation of Medina Presbyterian Church will be preparing and serving drive-thru chicken dinners from 3-6 p.m. (or until sold out) on June 9 and second Thursday of each month. Just follow the signs at 5020 Burgundy Bay Boulevard, about a mile and a half west of I-71. Someone will be there to take your order and bring your packaged hot meal out to your car. Dinners consist of baked chicken breast, stuffing, red skin mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, and a treat for dessert. Cost is $8 per dinner. Once they are gone, they are gone so it's best to call the chicken dinner hotline, 330-723-8979. Leave your name, number of dinners, and the time you plan to pick up during the designated hours. Pay for your dinners at pick up with cash or check.

This sounds like fun: South Court Historic Neighborhood Association's "Rockin' the Court" takes place from 5-8 p.m. June 11 with 27 bands from across northeast Ohio playing on 13 historic home's porches and lawns.  The stages are grouped between South Court and Lafayette Streets and South Court and West Park streets.

Bring lawn chairs or blankets so you can travel the street! Several food trucks and vendors will line Ivy Hill Lane. Come hungry.

Retirees head to Youngstown: A Day in Youngstown will be the focus of "Travels with Frank" Summer Tour for the Medina County Retired Teachers Association from 8:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 3. The first stop will include a guided tour of the Butler Institute of American Art followed by a soup and sandwich lunch in the museum.
