CLEVELAND, Ohio — LeBron James’ son is officially in the NBA, and they will be teammates in Los Angeles.

Bronny James was selected on Thursday by the Lakers with the No. 55 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

It’s the first time in NBA history there has ever been a father-son duo on the same roster.

Bronny played in 25 games in his lone season at USC, averaging 4.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He shot 36.6% from the field and 26.7% from 3-point range on an average of 2.4 attempts.

He did not make his season debut until Dec. 10 as he recovered from suffering cardiac arrest that he suffered back in late July 2023. He was diagnosed a month later with a congenital heart defect.

Bronny was arguably the biggest name going into the second round of the draft as questions kept coming up about whether the Lakers would take him to pair him with his father. Former NBA GM Bob Myers reported during ESPN’s broadcast of the second day of the draft that Bronny’s agent, Rich Paul, told some teams not to draft Bronny or he would go play in Australia.

Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer said in his scouting report of Bronny that he has a “picturesque shooting form” and praised his defensive ability and high basketball IQ. However, he also noted Bronny’s struggles as a shooter and how he “lacks a great handle.”
