Marietta College: Charles Herman of Medina is one of 16 students who are volunteering at one or more of three college football games this winter.

Herman, who is majoring in Sport Management, is assisting with a variety of responsibilities during the days leading up to the game and will be part of the game-day experience at the RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl. Herman is a graduate of Medina High School.

“The sports industry requires industry experience for entry-level employees. Sure, many programs require internships,” said Rick Smith, Associate Professor of Sport Management. “But what makes Marietta College stand out? It’s these job shadow experiences that many, many other schools are not doing in the way that we structure the experience to balance hands-on work with meaningful professional networking and learning on-site.”

Miami University: Miami University Regionals names students to the part-time dean’s list who earned a high academic standing and were enrolled in less than 12 graded credit hours and earning a 3.6 or higher GPA during the 2021 spring semester. Medina residents Alyssa Sheridan and Austin Schweppe earned a place on that list.

Baldwin Wallace University: BW senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC linebacker Nick Pankow of Medina has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America first-team.

Pankow, who carries a perfect 4.00 grade point average in business analytics, becomes the 125th BW student-athlete to be named as an Academic All-American and the 35th football player to earn the honor. The 125 Yellow Jackets that have been honored is more than college or university in the OAC and ranks 12th nationally in Division III. Pankow was the lone OAC player named to the first team and just one of three conference players selected.

Off the field, he is a two-time Academic All-OAC performer, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 selection, Dean’s List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Dayton C. Miller honoraries.

University of Findlay:  Kimberly Sprungl of Hinckley recently performed in the University of Findlay Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble’s annual December concert, “Preparing the Way: A Holiday Concert.” The bands are under the direction of Dr. Wes King, Director of Bands at UF.

Ohio University: Seven fall OHIO grads commission as officers in the United States Army. One of them, Ken Wallace, from Brunswick, graduated with a degree in political science from the College of Arts and Sciences and will serve with the Engineer branch in the Ohio Army National Guard as a member of the 812th Engineer Company based in Lorain, Ohio. He will complete his Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri.

Maj. Darrell Fawley leads the Army ROTC program at Ohio University and commends the seven newly commissioned officers.

“For Army ROTC cadets, commissioning is the commencement of their careers as Army officers in the service of our nation,” Fawley said. “These seven have persevered through unprecedented challenges in their last two years as cadets at OHIO. They have proven they are ready to be leaders and we are excited to see them move into leadership roles. Our Bobcats will lead the future.”

The Army ROTC Bobcat Battalion was established at OHIO in 1935 and prepares students to be active-duty officers in the United States Army. At Ohio University, ROTC programs are housed in University College.
