General assistance: Bagley Road

The owner and operator of an ice cream truck in the city contacted police Sept. 23. He said there was another ice cream truck that had been driving through his territory. He said the competing truck did not have a permit. The ice cream truck driver said he wanted to complain because he lost $350 from his competition. He was advised to call police when he sees the other ice cream truck driver. Police will then check on his credentials. Police also warned the driver of using 911.

Assisted agency: Bagley Road

A resident called police at 11:15 p.m. Sept. 22 about someone who broke into her house. She said she woke up and the suspect left. The suspect broke through the back door. The victim was unsure how many people were involved. She described the suspect as a big guy, who got into a car and pulled out of the driveway.

Theft: Columbia Road

A resident went to the police station Sept. 23 to report a package was sent to the house, but an item inside was stolen from it. The item, valued at $35, was taken out of the mailbox.

Found property: Bagley Road

Someone turned in a set of keys Sept. 23 found at the Village Green. It was a single key with a blue LED flashlight.

Traffic stop: Columbia Road

An officer cited a motorist at 8:20 p.m. Sept. 23 for having an expired tag on his car that was parked at the Village Green.

Juveniles: Locust Drive

A resident at 9:16 p.m. Sept. 23 called police about kids who were knocking on doors and windows and running away. The caller said there were three or four kids now walking down Redwood Drive. The officer found the kids at 9:30 p.m. and talked to them about their actions.

Suspicious car: Lindbergh Boulevard

An officer checked on an occupied car at 8:05 a.m. Sept. 24 that was parked by the power lines. The driver was just waiting for a friend to go to a garage sale.

Hazard: Mapleway Drive

An officer at 4:57 p.m. Sept. 24 saw a car on the street with its hazard lights flashing. He thought it might be a disabled car. The driver, however, was down the street shopping at a garage sale.

Suspicious vehicle: Rollingbrook Circle

A resident called police at 9:15 p.m. Sept. 24 about a car that drove down the circle about four times. She was concerned because her children were playing outside. The driver got out of her car and spoke to the kids, saying she was looking for a friend. An officer found the car on Lakeview Drive and followed it. He stopped the car on Schady Road and warned the driver about not using a turn signal. The driver said she was looking for a friend’s house but the address she had did not match up. The officer directed her to a gas station to get a phone charger and call her friend.

Traffic stop: Columbia Road

An officer cited a motorist at 12:44 a.m. Sept. 25 for speeding 48 mph in a 25 zone by Tyndall Falls.

Suspicious situation: Columbia and Usher roads

Police received a call at 12:31 p.m. Sept. 25 about a man sitting on the railroad tracks with a woman kneeling in front of him. Both parties may be in their 40s. The caller said no weapons were seen. Police alerted Norfolk Southern Railway and asked that train traffic stop in the area. It was then learned the two were seen on the more southern CSX Railway tracks. It stopped train traffic also. Police checked the area and asked local businesses on Sprague Road between Columbia and Usher roads if they saw anyone. They did not. The railway companies were told they could resume train traffic. Police were out with the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.

Traffic stop: Brookside Drive

An officer stopped a motorist at 4:48 p.m. Sept. 25 who was cited for texting while driving.

Traffic stop: Bagley road and Metropolitan Boulevard

An officer Sept. 25 warned the driver for having excessive window tint on the car.

Suspicious vehicle: Grist Mill Run

An officer at 12:58 a.m. Sept. 26 saw a pick-up truck with its doors open. He tried contacting its owner. He did speak with the homeowner who believed it was an oversight. The officer checked the area on foot.

Parking violation: Columbia Road

An officer cited a motorist for parking his car overnight at 4:44 a.m. Sept. 28.

Suspicious person: Lakeview Drive

Police received a call at 4:17 a.m. Sept. 23 that a car was parked in the middle of the street. The caller said the man claimed he worked for Amazon. The caller originally saw the man in the Woodgate Farms area. There were two cars in front of his house there. He saw two kids sprinting from driveways and the neighbor’s dome lights in their car were on. The caller is unsure whether these were the same he saw earlier. The resident called again at 4:20 a.m. and saw two cars pulling onto Sharpe Road, like the ones he saw by his home. He followed the cars that returned to the Woodgate Development and two kids ran out of the cars. They were the ones he saw in his neighborhood. Police received another call at 4:40 a.m. about people who tried to get inside his truck, which was parked in the driveway. They were unable to gain entry. These individuals likely were the same ones that a neighboring police department helped chase that morning. The cars fled onto I-480. They were suspected of the same ones who have stolen cars in the community.
