MEDINA, Ohio -- The Medina County Health Department is asking voters to approve a levy renewal on the Nov. 8 ballot that has been in place since 1992.

This will be a 10-year renewal of an existing 0.7-mill levy, according to Medina County Health Commissioner Krista Wasowski.

“This levy is base funding for all agency operations,” Wasowski said. “All programs within the agency receive some level of funding from the levy.”

She shared that the renewal would maintain the current collection rate, which sits at $9.42 per $100,000 of home valuation. This will be a renewal, not a new tax, she emphasized.

“Everybody benefits from having a high-quality health department and the ability of the health department to respond to the day-to-day health needs of our community and the emerging health needs of our community,” Wasowski said.

“That requires a level of funding. What we’re requesting from the public is the minimum of what we need. It’s cost affective for them and for us to keep this as a renewal.”

The Medina County Health Department offers a wide range of services, from health education and food inspection to low-cost medical and dental coverage.

“There’s so many things that we do for babies and families, seniors and individuals alike,” said Wasowski.
