Once-shy Frida is the queen of the house: Send us your pet stories

Frida the chihuahua strikes a regal pose.

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio -- I wasn’t looking to adopt another dog when I went to the Northeast Ohio SPCA pet shelter on Brookpark Road to drop off a donation. Most of the dogs there are large and wouldn’t be a good fit for our family.

However, there was a tiny female chihuahua cowering in the back of a kennel. It was love at first sight for me, and after she was cleared for adoption, I took her home.

Frida was very shy at first. It took her six months to work up the courage to get on the couch with us and our other dogs, but now she is the queen of our house and our hearts.

I’m so glad I walked into the pet shelter that day, and I think Frida is too.
