Local collegians gain special honors and diplomas

Baldwin Wallace University: Baldwin Wallace University senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference attack Jake Nanosky ov Medina and a graduate of Medina High School, has been selected as a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Scholar All-American

Nanosky, who garners his first accolade, carried a 3.921 grade point average in finance. He becomes just the second BW student-athlete to earn the honor joining former All-American defender Neil Randall, who received his recognition in 2023.

This season, Nanosky led the team and was tied for second in the OAC with 28 assists. He was second on the squad and was eight in the league with 35 goals. Nanosky led the team and was fourth in the conference with 63 points. He also tallied 14 ground balls and six caused turnovers.

For his career, Nanosky is the University record holder for shots on goal with 239, goals scored with 135 and games played with 67. He ranks second all-time in school history in assists with 107 and points with 242. Nanosky also holds the single season record for a freshman in shots on goal with 68, total points with 63, goals scored with 39 and assists with 27. He has also recorded 82 ground balls and caused 28 turnovers in his career. Nanosky is a four-time All-OAC selection, including a three-time first-team honoree, a two-time OAC Offensive Player of the Week Award recipient and the 2021 OAC Rookie of the Year Award winner.

Off the field, he is a three-time Academic All-OAC honoree, College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection, Dean’s list student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma, Dayton C. Miller and School of Business honoraries.

Nanosky was also a two-year letter winning wide receiver where he received Academic All-OAC honors

The University of Alabama: Several local students were named to the dean’s list with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the president’s list with an academic record of 4.0. They are:

Morgan Beckler of Brunswick was named to the Presidents List; Olivia Cooley of Brunswick was named to the Deans Listl; Jordan Dye of Brunswick was named to the Deans List; Meghan Kellem of Brunswick was named to the Presidents List; Kyleigh Uhrina of Brunswick was named to the Presidents List; Nolan Wickes of Brunswick was named to the Dean’s List.

Quade Mainzer of Hinckley was named to the Presidents List and has earned his Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees.

Capital University: Cooper Kirda of Medina and Sarah Hennigan, of Brunswick, were named to the President’s List for the spring 2024 semester while Jamie Zickefoose, of Medina, was named to the Dean’s List.

Capital has three lists denoting academic distinction among full-time, degree-seeking students: the President’s List, Provost’s List, and Dean’s List. The President’s List indicates the highest level of academic distinction. To be named to the President’s List, students must have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.85.

American International College: These local students have earned a place on the Dean’s List for the spring 2024 semester: Louisa Justice of Brunswick, majoring in General Business and Gabrielle Miller of Hinckley, majoring in Health Science.

College of Charleston: Over 3,500 students were named to the President’s List and the Dean’s List for Sping 2024 including Grace Sturgill of Medina who was named to the President’s List. Sturgill is majoring in Marketing and Jenna Parker of Medina, who was named to the Dean’s List. Parker is majoring in Biochemistry and Mathematics.

Champlain College: Lily Kroese of Medina was named to the Champlain College Dean’s List for the Spring 2024 semester. Kroese is currently majoring in Computer Forensics & Digital Investigations.

University of Iowa: In May, more than 6,500 University of Iowa undergraduate, graduate, and professional students received their degrees, a group that included Kathryn Gucik of Medina, a student in the Graduate College studyng Theatre Arts. Gucik earned her Master of Fine Arts degree.
