5-year-old boy struck by car in Cleveland hit-skip

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A 5-year-old boy was struck by a car Monday in a hit-skip crash on Cleveland’s East Side, police said.

The incident happened just before 8:45 a.m. on East 55th Street near Chester Avenue, police said.

The boy was taken to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital for treatment. A Cleveland police spokesman did not immediately provide an update on his condition.

The driver sped away from the scene, police said.

Authorities believe the car that struck the child is a white Nissan with damage to the mirror on the driver’s side.
