NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – A Lorain County grand jury will soon hear evidence in the case of a woman accused of stabbing her parents in their home last week.

Elyria Municipal Judge Gary Bennett set bond at $240,000 for Emily Deese, 34, on Monday. He also bound the case over to the grand jury. The panel is expected to discuss it in the coming weeks.

Deese is charged with two counts of attempted murder, a first-degree felony, and four counts of felonious assault, a second-degree felony.

North Ridgeville police responded to the 6600 block of Amber Way at 4:33 p.m. Dec. 6 for a report of a woman assaulting her father.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Deese had stabbed her parents, James and Melanie Deese, multiple times, causing serious injuries.

Clint Chasko, a North Ridgeville police officer, testified in Elyria Municipal Court on Monday. He was one of the first officers called to the home.

“There was blood splattered,” Chasko said during the hearing, which was livestreamed by WOIO-Channel 19. “Just pools within the roadway, in the driveway. On the door you could see handprints. More [blood] splattered throughout the house. An enormous (pool) of blood. More than I’ve ever seen.”

In a Dec. 6 press release, police said Deese chased her father out of the residence and continued her attempt to stab him.

“Her hands were…covered in blood,” Chasko said. “And James had a tremendous amount of blood on his left side. His arm (was) like he stuck it into a barrel of blood. I’ve never seen so much.”

While applying a tourniquet to James Deese, Chasko said the father appeared to be in shock and said, “She stabbed me.”

Chasko said Emily Deese “followed instructions well” when told by officers to get on the ground while being arrested.

North Ridgeville paramedics transported her father, 69, and mother, 67, to University Hospitals St. John’s Medical Center. They have been discharged from the hospital and are recovering at home, Lt. Greg Petek said.

Police arrested Emily Deese on Wildlife Trail, just east of Amber Way. She was also transported to the hospital for injuries from stabbing her parents. She then was taken to Lorain County Jail.

Officer Brandon Kjaer testified that while riding in the ambulance with Deese she was silent when questioned by medics but gave brief statements about the incident.

Kjaer said he was trying to explain her mental health history to medics when she interrupted him.

“She stated, ‘This all happened because they tried to get me to take my medication that is slowly killing me,’ " he testified. “She stated, ‘This actually really happened because they believe in one god.’”

In court, Deese broke her silence to share what she said in the ambulance.

“No, that’s not what I said. I said it’s because I bear witness to one god….and Muhammad is prophet,” she said.
