WILLOUGHBY, Ohio -- Rick Armon of the Akron Beacon Journal and I recently sampled 18 Christmas Ales from Northeast Ohio brewers. They come in a variety of spices and flavors. Today: Willoughby Brewing Co.'s Wenceslas.

We'll feature them one by one Monday though Friday through Dec. 24. Consider this the holiday beer tour of December.

Beer: Wenceslas.

Brewery: Willoughby Brewing Co.

ABV: 8.1 percent.

Spices: Assorted spices.

Marc says: "Good King Wenceslas looked out, on the feast of Stephen, When the snow lay round about, Deep and crisp and even." OK, that came from Google because no one knows all the lyrics to this song. But if the good ol' king tried this, he wouldn't have cared about the falling snow. He'd sit, perched on his throne, and enjoy this very nice restrained spice effort.

Rick says: This is an easy drinking holiday ale with a hint, but not too much, spice. Sign me up for another round.
