ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- Rick Armon of the Akron Beacon Journal and I recently sampled 18 Christmas Ales from Northeast Ohio brewers. They come in a variety of spices and flavors. Today: Christmas Ale (Santa's Little Helper) from Rocky River Brewing Co.

We'll feature them one by one Monday though Friday through Dec. 24. Consider this the holiday beer tour of December:

Beer: Christmas Ale (Santa's Little Helper).

Brewery: Rocky River Brewing Co.

ABV: 7.6 percent.

Spices: Ginger, cinnamon, coriander, curacao (bitter orange peel), nutmeg.

Marc says: Chocolate dominates, along with a burnt roasty finish. I'm not a huge sweets person, but this was pleasing. Why buy chocolate candies to have around the holidays when you can keep a few growlers of this in your fridge?

Rick says: It's a nicely spiced brew with a roasty flavor. Homer definitely would send Santa's Little Helper to the fridge for one of these.
