CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Ricardo Sandoval doesn't go around promoting himself like some "celebrity chefs" and doesn't trade on foodie cliches. He's usually too busy cooking in the back of this Tremont stalwart.

Happy Hour: 4-7 p.m. Monday-Friday
The proof is in his work and it's usually extraordinary at Fat Cats. So is the Happy Hour, which boasts a menu that is longer than the regular lists at most places. It's seemingly endless, with small plates and drink deals that run from $3 to $6.50. I started with a Puerto - a fruity, tequila-based elixir that went quite well with the sun coming in through the window.
It paved the way for the small plates. The Tofo Steamed Bun ($3) is a fine way to start it off - not to mention a unique and inexpensive offering. The Chickpea Taco ($5) made for a perfect counterpoint to the sweetness of the elixir.
We could go on and on here, from the tomato-olives-zucchini-cheddar pizza ($5) to the Pasta Fagioli ($3) to the penne bowl: a fine combination of sweet sausage, green beans and marinara ($5).
There are many more unique items on the menu to eat... Suddenly, that mural of a fat cat over the bar is starting to feel like a mirror.
