King Khan & The Shrines at Beachland Ballroom
"Imagine Roky Erickson backed by the Sun Ra Arkestra or Wilson Pickett and The Velvet Underground," goes the first line of King Khan & The Shrines' bio. It's an apt characterization of the troupe, whose music shapeshifts between freaky garage, soul-punk and psych-jazz— or, in its own words, a "psychedelic soul band with a spectacle of a stage show" that's also a "cult musical phenomenon." 9 p.m. Friday, June 17 Tickets: $16 advance, $18 day of show via Ticketfly. Read more about King Khan here.
