CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Several Northeast Ohio movie theaters will screen the movie "Ali" -- a biopic about the late Muhammad Ali starring Will Smith -- on Friday to honor the legendary boxer.

Movie theaters across the country in the Regal Cinemas chain, including three in Northeast Ohio, are showing the film to pay tribute to Ali.

Area theaters include:

  • Regal Interstate Park Stadium 18 in Akron at 2:50 p.m. and 9:50 p.m.
  • Regal Cobblestone Square 20 in Sheffield Village at 3:55 p.m. and 9:55 p.m.
  • Regal Richmond Town Square Stadium 20 in Richmond Heights at 2:50 p.m. and 9:25 p.m.

The three-time heavyweight champion of the world died June 3 of Septic Shock in an Arizona hospital at the age of 74.

Thousands of people turned out for the boxer's funeral in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky on Thursday.

In addition to his prowess inside the ring, Ali was known for his political activism and opposition to the war in Vietnam. His refusal to fight in Vietnam earned him a four-year suspension from professional boxing during the prime of his career.
