DECEMBER

Wednesday, Dec. 21: 750ml Wines is having Glenmorangie single-malt Scotch tasting at 6 p.m. Lineup includes 18-year, Quinta Ruban, Milsean and Signet. Cost is $79 (one), $149 (two). Includes one Glenmorangie 10-year bottle and glassware gift set with each two-person admission. Space is limited; RSVP at 440-526-8100. 750ml is at 8100 Brecksville Road, Brecksville.

Friday-Saturday, Dec. 23: The Olde Wine Cellar will feature Christmas Cabs 5-9 p.m. (The store will not repeat the tasting on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, but will be open 9 a.m.-3 p.m.) Cost is $15 and includes six samples, tasting notes and cheese. Saturday, Dec. 31: CLE Urban Winery is hosting its first New Year's Eve Customer Appreciation Party 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. The event is free (21 and over) and includes heavy appetizers, music from Diana Chittester, DJ, dancing, and a peach Chardonnay mimosa toast at midnight in a souvenir glass. Also: The Ohio State-Clemson game will be on television beginning at 7 p.m. CLE Urban Winery is at 2180 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights.

JANUARY

Wednesday, Jan. 4: CLE Urban Winery is offering a hands-on Ice Wine Experience. Participants receive two bottles of Lake Effect Snow Ice Wine after the three-part program. Tickets are available until Saturday, Dec. 24. The initial session is 7 p.m. Jan. 4: Initiating fermentation of ice wine juice. Learn how to rack the juice, discuss yeast selection and inoculate the juice with yeast. Subsequent sessions: Initiating the clarification process to show how wine is racked off the lees and clarified prior to bottling. The third session is bottling and labeling. The experience is limited to the first 20 individuals/couples to sign up. Cost is $75 for all sessions. Reserve a spot here.

Saturday, Jan. 14: Colonial Wine and Beverage is having a three-part January Palate Tune-Up Series. Part 1: Floral and herbal notes. The series is designed "to strengthen your recognition of important non-fruit aromas and flavors in wine," the folks at the shop say. This is not a basic class. Each seminar is 4-6 p.m. and will include a short lecture component, hands-on presentation, discussion of aromatics and six-course tasting. Bread and snacks will be served. Cost is $75 for all three ($25 per session). Call 440-729-7303 for reservations. Colonial is at 8389 Mayfield Road, Chesterland.

Monday, Jan. 16: Vita Urbana will hold a close-out wine event 7-11 p.m. Wine and food samples included. Bottles available for sale. Cost is $25. RSVP by Friday, Jan. 13. The restaurant asks for cancellations before 24 hours of the event or you will be charged half the cost. Vita Urbana is at 1200 W. 76th St., in Cleveland's Battery Park neighborhood.

Thursday, Jan. 19: The Arc of Ohio-Stark County's annual Grape Possibilities, a wine tasting and silent auction, will be in Canton Memorial Civic Center. The event will include selections from more than a dozen wineries and distributors, hors d'oeuvres and carving stations, gourmet cheeses, live music, 50-50 drawing and silent auction. Time and tickets: $75, 5:30 p.m. for pre-tasting for Platinum ticket holders; $50, 6:30 p.m. for regular admission. Monday, Jan. 23: A pair of Akron restaurants - Nuevo Modern Mexican and Tequila Bar and Crave - are having a progressive wine dinner 6-8 p.m. A shuttle will run between them starting at Nuevo (the two are two-tenths of a mile apart). Thursday, Jan. 26: The 20th Anniversary Red & White on Thursday Night, which benefits the Arthritis Foundation, is 5:30-9 p.m. Cost: $85 (general admission), $125 (VIP).
