LAKEWOOD, Ohio – Our weekly brunch and breakfast series continues as we check out Deagan’s Kitchen & Bar. Here’s a look at what to expect:
Location + hours: 14810 Detroit Ave., Lakewood. It’s between Cook Avenue to the west and Warren Road to the east. It’s across from Dave’s Cosmic Subs, Edward Jones, Souper Market and Crazy Mullets Super Salon. Street parking is on Detroit and side streets. Weekend brunch is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Menu or buffet? Menu.
About the place: A Sunday morning two hours before a Browns game was busy, with at least 50 people dining and drinking in the spacious place. It draws an eclectic mix, from couples to families, old and young (there is a “for the kiddos” menu section). Free Form network was playing on televisions until NFL pregame shows were turned on. Poppish and alt rock sounds played lightly in the background. Good energy for a Sunday morning especially. Our bartender Taylor was friendly and helpful.
About the menu: It’s got a lot of bases covered. Many of the dishes lean on the hearty side (chicken fried steak, brunch burger, biscuits and gravy, chicken hash and egg) but we went in a different direction. The vegan breakfast is served in a small skillet with red pepper sauce drizzled across its mix of vegan sausage (tofu). The menu can appeal to adventurous and traditional eaters.
Pastrami Lox Benedict or Huevos Rancheros anyone?
About the drinks: Build-you-own Bloody Mary bar. More than a dozen taps have a heavy craft-beer emphasis.
Don’t miss: The cinnamon roll monkey bread tempted, but we opted for Jalapeno cornbread served with smoked maple syrup, cinnamon bourbon butter and strawberry compote. The bread isn’t too hot; there’s only a slight peppery burn.
