CLEVELAND, Ohio – Our brunch and breakfast series continues as we check out Townhall in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood. Here’s a look at what to expect:
Location + hours: 1909 W. 25th St., Cleveland. Brunch: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Pay-lot parking is behind the West Side Market.
Menu or buffet? Menu.
About the place: The restaurant bills itself as 100 percent non-GMO (genetically modified organisms) and mostly organic. It’s a big pregaming place. On our visit, the place was packed more than an hour before kickoff of the Michigan-Ohio State game. We heard tunes from the Pretenders, Harry Connick and Bruno Mars. There’s a patio for warm-weather months. It’s within a block from the market, several breweries and other businesses.
About the menu: A nice variety. You’ll find healthy dishes (Acai + Grainless Granola Bowl, power salad), decadent ones (Southern Comfort – biscuits gravy and poached eggs) and creative twists (Sweet Potato Hotcakes). Sides include a single hotcake compared to the full order of three, smashed avocado toast and organic eggs. The overall menu has a paleo emphasis, for those who follow that diet.
Don’t miss: Make-your-own crepe station offers about two dozen fillings (fresh berries and chocolate was a tasty one.) Crepes often have a sweet sugary pie filling, but here the fruit was fresh. A nice surprise.
About the drinks: Full bar with excellent craft-beer list. Items that could be afterthoughts were very good; the fresh-brewed tea satisfied our morning tea drinker. Coffee is organic.
