Trentina is closing, owner Jonathon Sawyer says.THE PLAIN DEALER

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Trentina, the University Circle restaurant from Jonathon Sawyer, will close this month.

Sawyer posted the news via Facebook Tuesday afternoon. The restaurant's last day will be Saturday, Jan. 12.

"It’s the first day of 2019 and I’m excited for the years to come. But as always there is something left behind, Restaurant Trentina has been the place of many of my favorite memories. She will always be singular in our hearts & memories and hold the most special place in mine."

The restaurant's cuisine and wine focused on Northern Italy, with its name serving as a tribute to Trentino, Italy. The region northwest of Venice is where Sawyer's wife, Amelia, and her family originate, according to the restaurant's website.

In just a few years Trentina drew accolades from Wine Enthusiast, which included the restaurant on its list as one of the nation’s 100 best wine restaurants.

Sawyer won the prestigious James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Great Lakes region in 2015. He also owns The Greenhouse Tavern on E. 4th Street in Cleveland.
