Eat at Joe’s: Northeast Ohio’s best weekend brunches, breakfasts

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Our brunch and breakfast series continues as we check out Eat at Joe’s. Here’s a look at what to expect:

Location + hours: 1475 S. Green Road, South Euclid, 216-381-3101. It's in a small commercial area at the southeast corner of Mayfield and S. Green roads. It's tucked near a Best Cuts and CVS. Note: The Best Cuts sign on the same building is more prominent than the restaurant's sign, so it's easy to miss. It's about 10 miles from downtown Cleveland.

Menu or buffet? Menu.

About the place: One of the many places suggested to us from a reader. There's no mistaking you are in a popular diner with its steady flow of customers near the front. Joe Angelo and his wife Lori have owned it since 1991. The décor has one theme: Boxing. About 50 framed photos of boxers are hung throughout the space; Joe's father was a fan of the sport. (There's even a picture of his father with Rocky Marciano and Joe DiMaggio.) It's not fancy, with black and white tile floor, about a dozen tables and eight-seat counter.

About the menu: No folded menu, just a vertical display along with a few specials on a chalkboard. Several egg dishes, a breakfast sandwich, five omelets, eggs benedict, pancakes and French toast round out the offerings. Specials include salami and eggs and grits, and chocolate-chip pancakes. Several waitresses hustled in and out of the counter area (we especially liked one wearing a t-shirt that read "I used to have a handle on life until it broke off.")

Don’t miss: The 'cash only' sign on the register.

Tasty eats: A delicious breakfast sandwich with scrambled egg, crispy bacon and melted cheese wasn't messy, had flavorful saltiness from the bacon, and held together in a Kaiser roll instead of the usual croissant.
