CLEVELAND, Ohio - Four additional breweries have committed to join the Cleveland Brewery Passport, the tourism-based program finishing its inaugural year.
The passport is designed to get folks out to breweries in Cuyahoga County and the surrounding area.
The four breweries scheduled to participate in the 2019-20 passport program:
• Bookhouse Brewing, which opened last year in W. 25th Street in Ohio City.
• Cornerstone Brewing Co., which opened in Berea in 2005 and also has a location in Madison.
• Southern Tier Brewing Co., a New York-based brewery that opened a brewery-restaurant on Prospect Avenue less than a year ago in downtown Cleveland.
• Platform Beer Co.'s Phunkenship, which is slated to open at West 32nd Street and Sackett Avenue to focus on sour ales. It expands Platform's foothold in Cleveland, where it has two other locations.
So far, more than 2,000 people completed the passport's first tier while more than 1,800 finished the entire book, David Gilbert, president and CEO of Destination Cleveland, said in a release.
Redemption deadline for the first year is Saturday, July 13.
Also new: Patrons can receive a prize at three tiers (all rewards must be redeemed after each tier is completed at the Cleveland Visitors Center, 334 Euclid Ave.):
Eight breweries visited: After making a purchase at eight stops, participants receive a coaster pack.
20 breweries visited: Make a purchase at 20 breweries and get a pint glass.
34 breweries visited: Fill the entire passport and receive a t-shirt showcasing the participating breweries. Folks at this tier also will be entered in a contest to win a weekend getaway in Cleveland.
The folks at Destination Cleveland say passport patrons do not have to wait until Phunkenship is open for redemption, that a final “free” stamp will be given prior to Phunkenship's opening to complete the passport.
Those who complete any of the tiers will be entered into a quarterly drawing for tickets to a sporting event.
Passports are available at any participating brewery and Cleveland Visitors Center. Earn a stamp by buying a drink, food or merchandise.
The breweries are all within a 25-mile radius of Cleveland.
