CLEVELAND, Ohio - Osteria di Valerio e Al has closed but will be relocating soon, its owner says.

The Italian restaurant at 408 W. St. Clair Ave. shut its doors "a couple of weeks ago," owner Al Cefaratti said.

But, he added, "We're going to reopen soon."

Cefaratti did not give details on the closure but said he would be reopening at 1801 E. 9th Street, in the space formerly occupied by One Walnut and most recently Porcello's Italian Bistro, "in two to three weeks."

"A lot of changes have been made," he said. "You know the restaurant business."

Osteria di Valerio e Al opened in 2001. Our review this year found tasteful décor with Frank Sinatra tunes playing and dishes that included carpaccio, antipasto and Maiale al porto con prosciutto - a savory prosciutto-wrapped pork tenderloin. Service was helpful and tended to be by committee - that is, multiple waiters and waitresses attended to tables.

In 2017, the restaurant's Cappon Della Liguria - a tasty medley of mussels - was chosen by Pete Minotti of Minotti's Wine & Spirits in our annual 50 Things to Eat and Drink in Cleveland compilation.
