ORANGE VILLAGE, Ohio - City Works in the Pinecrest Development closed this week.
The 9,000-square-foot restaurant was located near Pinecrest's "Central Park" and accommodated seating for 184 people. Its rotating beer list included more than 90 brews, with an emphasis on Northeast Ohio brands.
Bottleneck Management, which owned and operated the Orange Village City Works, issued a release after the restaurant closed Wednesday:
"With the success of City Works in other markets around the country, Bottleneck Management is putting energy into national expansion plans. City Works is proud to have served the greater Cleveland community over the last year and a half, and the company is actively prioritizing its team members in Orange Village during this transition. Bottleneck Management supports the future growth of the Pinecrest development and thanks the Orange Village and Beachwood community for its patronage."
The restaurant opened May 18, 2018. It introduced growlers last year and extended its happy hour in January. It recently expanded its brunch menu.
The Chicago-based management company lists 10 locations on the City Works website with one coming, in Watertown, Massachusetts.
The closing raises the question of potential saturation.
Pinecrest has quite a few restaurants, ranging from Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, Pinstripes, Shake Shack and several others that also opened in 2018. Thursday, the opening date was announced for RED Pinecrest, which is going in near where City Works was. And a Cooper’s Hawk Winery and Restaurant sits across the street from Pinecrest’s entrance on Harvard Road.
