CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cuyahoga Community College culinary students will host a wine dinner benefiting Muscular Dystrophy Association on Thursday, Dec. 5.
The six-course “Un-Wine and Dine” will be hosted by the student-run Alere restaurant. It is scheduled for 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Jerry Sue Thornton Center, 2500 E. 22nd St., Cleveland.
Courses prepared and served by students in the Hospitality Management Center will be paired with wines selected to complement the dishes at the inaugural event.
The menu and varietals:
• Cheese and charcuterie. Wine: Signature winetail.
• Seared scallops with a medley of local squash, smoked pepitas and brown-butter sage sauce. Wine: Moscato.
• Gnocchi in a Parmesan cream sauce with crispy house-made pancetta. Wine: Chardonnay.
• Watermelon sorbet.
• Grilled chicken breast with celery-root puree, braised celery, apple-celery slaw and chicken jus. Wine: Shiraz.
• Apple tart with cinnamon ice cream. Wine: Late-harvest Riesling.
Tickets are $50 and can be purchased online.
Students enrolled in the event-planning program - also a part of the Hospitality Management Center - are involved in staging Un-Wine and Dine.
The center is a critical farm ground for Greater Cleveland restaurants, which face turnover and hiring challenges for cooks and servers.
