Voodoo Brewery opens in Cleveland Heights (photos, video)

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio - Voodoo Brewery opened its doors on Saturday tucked in the busy stretch of Lee Road in Cleveland Heights.

The exposed brick-lined space is filled with hanging reclaimed doors, kitchen and a long bar featuring a variety of beer styles poured from 15-plus taps. Voodoo's all-year lineup is:

• Gran Met, a Belgian Tripel

• Voodoo Love Child, a Gran Met aged on fruit

• Killapilz, Imperial Lager

• Hoodoo, India Pale Ale

• Good Vibes, India Pale Ale

• Wynona's Big Brown, Brown Ale

• White Magick of the Sun, spiced Wheat Ale

The hanging doors - on the wall and even the ceiling - are a unique touch.

"We do it at all of our spots," said Jake Voelker, the company's chief operating officer who was in town for the official opening. "There's no rhyme or reason."

The company is based in Meadville, Pennsylvania, where it brews. Its beers then are distributed to its locations. The Northeast Ohio Voodoo is the company's first permanent brewpub outside of its home state.

The Cleveland Heights location is at 2279 Lee Road, just south of Cedar Road. Don Trivisonno and Cathy Zalocki own the local Voodoo.

Brian Anderson, business development manager for Cleveland Heights, said the area has morphed into a place for "makers," with Cle Urban Winery and other spots nearby.

"We've been working for two years to find a tenant for this space, and it worked out," he said. "A good addition to Lee Road."
