AKRON — Midwest rock and roll icon Donnie Iris and the Cruisers will headline the Rock The Civic gala, a benefit for the historic Akron Civic Theatre.

The concert - Saturday, Aug. 16 - will feature former Michael Stanley Band singer-guitarist Jonah Koslen, who will open for Iris.

A VIP pre-show party is 5:30 p.m. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the VIP package are $150; tickets for just the show start at $30 and are on sale at akroncivic.com.

All proceeds will benefit the theater.

Iris and the Cruisers, who recently played a sold-out show at the Kent Stage, have been longtime area favorites despite their Pittsburgh origins. While long beloved in the Midwest, the octogenarian singer-songwriter also had national Top 40 hits with his hooky melodic rockers including “Ah! Leah!” and “Love Is Like a Rock” which were also rotation staples in the early years of MTV.
