Perk Cup Cafe & Grille: Northeast Ohio's best weekend brunches, breakfasts

BEREA, Ohio - Our brunch and breakfast series continues as we check out Perk Cup Cafe & Grille. Here's a look at what to expect:

Location + hours: 561 W. Bagley Road, Berea, 440-234-2233. Hours: 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m.- 2 p.m. Sunday. It's in a strip mall just north of Interstate 80 and east of Olmsted Falls.

Menu or buffet? Menu.

What to expect: The restaurant's website bills it as "the best kept secret in Berea." More than 50 pieces of art hang throughout the space. It has a comfortable feel: A pair of lounge chairs are nestled in a nook with a fireplace. Our server Mary kept a steady stream of coffee and hot-water refills, served with a smile.

About the menu: Everything is under $10. About a dozen offerings form the bulk of the menu, from The Berea (two eggs any style, hash browns, choice of meat, and toast) to the Sweet & Savory (same as The Berea but with French toast or pancakes instead of potatoes).

Don't miss: The Gourmet Griddle. This hearty carb-based trio (three pancakes, three slices of French toast or Belgian waffle) comes with your choice of gourmet topping: Bourbon Peach (warm maple bourbon peaches finished with candied pecans), Blackberry Brandy (warm blackberry brandy sauce) and lemon blueberry (with lemon cream-cheese drizzle). We opted for the tasty blackberry brandy, which came smothered atop large 'cakes.

Build-your-own: "Breakfast Bakers" are layered and baked, a mix of hash browns, scrambled eggs, choice of cheese and toast. There's also a three-egg omelette and breakfast sandwich.

Also: More than two dozen a la carte items are available, including individual eggs, ham steak and more.
