Congratulations to the Parma school board for showing the citizens that the two high schools are adequate for the district’s needs, thereby saving the citizens a lot of money on an unneeded future building.
Both schools are well situated in the district and have good vehicle access.
Now, the subject of Parma Senior High: We cannot change the fact that it is gone.
When PSH was envisioned in 1951-52, that neighborhood was not densely populated. No one could foresee the growth of Parma and the PSH campus.
Parma Senior High ended up being situated on two side streets, without adequate vehicle access.
No one is happier with the current traffic situation than the neighborhood’s residents. Today, planners may not consider this location for a major campus because of traffic requirements.
Perhaps the two remaining high school campuses will be all that is needed for now and in the future.
Perhaps a good use of the PSH property can be its acquisition by the City of Parma, which could add it to Parma park, making room for more attractions for the residents. Maybe even a recreation center.
Congrats to the Class of 2024 and the school board for showing the citizens it could be done.
