MEDINA, Ohio - When the Medina City Schools Board of Education meets on Tuesday, Becky Parkhurst will be back in her usual seat at the table.

The school board voted Wednesday to re-appoint Parkhurst to the seat she had held since July, when she was tapped to complete the term of former board member Doug Adamczyk, who resigned on June 8.

Due to a snafu that prevented Parkhurst's name from being added to the November ballot, Parkhurst's appointed term ended on Dec. 31. The board then sought new applications for the open seat, which expires in 2017.

Parkhurst applied, as did Janice Krusoczky, Kevin Selva and Dennis Churgovich, who had applied for appointment in the past.

"After careful consideration of all applicants, Becky Parkhurst was chosen for her proven commitment, skills in the area of finance and her professional background, all of which will be a benefit to the board," said board President Rob Skidmore.

Parkhurst works as an accountant for the Greater Medina Chamber of Commerce and is a parent of two Medina students.

"I'm excited to be re-appointed to the Medina City Schools Board of Education. I'm relieved that the process is over, and I'm looking forward to getting back to work with my fellow board members," Parkhurst said.

She will return to her post on the board's finance committee, which is looking into the district's pay-to-participate fees for sports and other extracurricular activities.

In response to a Facebook post about the appointment, board member Ronald Ross, who was elected in November, said he is confident that Parkhurst will continue to be a great asset to the school district.

Ross, a retired Medina police officer, had run for the school board in several previous elections and had sought appointment a few times, as well.

"I am encouraging the other three candidates to stay involved, not give up and keep their passion for wanting to be a part of the Board of Education," Ross wrote.
