AKRON, Ohio - The clouds have been slow to exit the Akron region, but dry conditions are here and will continue for some time.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland is reporting cloudy skies are finally starting to clear across the Akron area late this afternoon, opening the door for several days of sunny to mostly sunny skies, as dry weather will continue through the middle of next week. Original forecasts had called for mostly sunny skies today.

Temperatures have been held below average levels in the low 40s today due to the persistent cloud deck, but will be 5-10 degrees above average from Friday through late next week. According to AccuWeather Chief Long Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok, an ongoing and strengthening El Nino may succeed in keeping arctic air out of much of the United States at least through January.

At 3 p.m., National Weather Service radar showed no precipitation in Ohio, with the only precipitation in the eastern two-thirds of the country a storm system affecting extreme southern Florida..

Temperatures today are in the upper 30s after topping 40 degrees early this morning, but will rebound to around 50 degrees Saturday and Sunday and then remain in the mid- to upper-40s from Monday through Thursday. The temperature at 3 p.m. was 37 with mostly cloudy skies and haze at Akron-Canton Regional Airport and 36 with overcast skies and haze at Akron Fulton International Airport.
