A couple was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-car crash in Lorain County, police say.

The crash occurred about 3:45 p.m. on Ohio route 20 just south of Oberlin in Lorain County, according to a news release sent by the State Highway Patrol Tuesday night.

Leon Clowtis, 63, and Susan Clowtis, 59, of Norwalk, Ohio, were traveling east when their 2007 Chevy Aveo crossed left-of-center and crashed head-on into a 2011 Ford Edge headed west, the news release says. The two were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

A 75-year-old Elyria man driving the Ford Edge was trapped inside his vehicle and had to be mechanically removed from the car, the release states. He was flown to MetroHealth via Life Flight, where his current condition is unknown.

The Elyria man was the only person in his vehicle.

Everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seatbelt, the release states. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Ohio route 20 was shut down for almost three hours following the crash, but is now completely re-opened, the release says.
