Ohio police officer found dead in vehicle in park

CINCINNATI, Ohio — A longtime officer with the Cincinnati Police Department was found dead Thursday in a vehicle in a city park, according to reports.

Sgt. Arthur T. Schultz had been with the department for 28 years and was well-respected, Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac tells the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Schultz’s body was found in a vehicle in Eden Park at about 12:30 p.m., WCPO Channel 9 reports. Investigators have not said how he died but say it was not “natural."

“We always presume homicide until it’s proven otherwise,” Hamilton County Coroner Lakshmi Sammarco tells the Enquirer. Sammarco says investigators are considering homicide, suicide and accidental causes.

“It was a very emotional scene,” Isaac said in a news conference, according to reports. “This is a very difficult time for the department. My heart goes out to the family and the coworkers of our brother officer.”
