Most criminal charges stemming from May 30 riot in downtown Cleveland either dropped or drastically reduced

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cuyahoga County, Cleveland prosecutors and judges dropped nearly half of all criminal cases tied to the May 30 protests that turned into riots in downtown Cleveland, and of the 18 convictions secured by prosecutors, none have resulted in jail time.

As of Dec. 17, prosecutors and judges dismissed 53 of the 120 criminal cases involving 118 defendants -- including people charged only with violating Mayor Frank Jackson’s curfew order.
