HUDSON, Ohio -- Hudson officials credited a veteran mail carrier’s quick-thinking for saving the life of a 91-year-old resident on his delivery route.
Chris Poa, a 29-year veteran of United States Postal Service, was recently honored with the Hudson EMS Life Saving Award for his actions, according to a Hudson news release.
While delivering mail in June, Poa noticed something amiss when he observed that the woman had not been collecting her mail for several days.
Familiar with her habits from their frequent, quick conversations in the past, Poa’s instincts told him that something might be wrong.
Acting on his concern, Poa paused his route to investigate. Peering through the windows of the resident’s home, he thought he heard a sound and spotted what appeared to be a foot. Without hesitation, Poa called 911.
Upon arrival, Hudson police and firefighters entered the residence. They discovered the woman on the floor, where she had been for more than 48 hours, the release said.
The resident was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
It was later revealed that she is the mother-in-law of one of Hudson’s firefighters.
