5-star CB Anthony Cook puts Buckeyes in top 3: Ohio State football recruiting

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Last year, Ohio State went into Texas and took a five-star cornerback who had an argument for best player in the state.

Can the Buckeyes do it again?

They're one step close to pulling it off.

Anthony Cook, a five-star cornerback in the Class of 2018 from Houston, put the Buckeyes in his final three schools in an announcement on Monday night. Cook's other finalists are Texas and LSU.

Cook is the No. 13 overall player in the 247Sports composite ratings, the No. 2 corner in the country and the No. 1 player in Texas.

Ohio State is favored in 12 of the 15 247 crystal ball predictions for Cook. He did not announce a decision date, but a commitment from Cook would give Ohio State back-to-back blue chip corners from Texas after signing Jeffrey Okudah last year.

You could see how that might irk new Texas coach Tom Herman.

If Cook let's this play out, meaning he takes all of his official visits and makes his decision some time after his high school season, this will be an Urban Meyer vs. Tom Herman recruiting battle worth watching.

Maybe it was just coincidence, but Ohio State put out a Texas-themed social media post featuring quarterback J.T. Barrett earlier on Monday.

Barrett isn't from Houston (he's from Wichita Falls), but the rappers in the song -- Mike Jones, Slim Thug and Paul Wall -- are. That's probably not a coincidence.
