Garrett Wilson joins rare list as he loses his black stripe in spring: Ohio State football news

Garrett Wilson

Garrett Wilson becomes the third true freshman since 2016 to lose his black stripe in the spring.

COLUMBUS, Ohio --Only two true freshmen have earned the honor of losing their black stripe during Ohio State football spring practice the past four seasons.

Austin Mack was the first to do it in 2016, while Tommy Togiai did so last year. Now Garrett Wilson can add his name to that list.

He came to Columbus as a five-star prospect from Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas, rated as the highest-ranked wide receiver prospect in Ohio State history. He was the No. 2 wide receiver in the 2018 class and the No. 20 overall player. Wilson is expected to be an immediate contributor to the Buckeyes’ receiving corps.

Walk-on Austin Kutscher also lost his stripe today.

Kutscher and Wilson are the eighth and ninth players to lose their black stripes this spring. Wilson is the only early enrollee to do so.
