Former NBA and Cleveland Cavaliers guard Delonte West was arrested in Virginia on Thursday on misdemeanor charges of violating the conditions of his release and resisting arrest, according to reports.

West, 40, is jailed at the Fairfax County Detention Center on a $2,000 bond. The eight-year NBA veteran was scheduled to be arraigned in court at 8:30 a.m. Eastern on Friday.

West was arrested in Groveton, Virginia, early Thursday morning after police attempted to serve him a warrant. He fled the scene and a pursuit ensued, during which officers lost sight of West before finding him unresponsive. Officers administered West with Narcan, which is used to reverse a narcotic overdose in emergency situations, but it “did not have the desired effect,” officials said, according to WJLA7 News in Arlington. West was provided with Narcan a second time, which worked, and was transported to a local hospital before later being taken to Fairfax County Detention Center.

This isn’t the first time that West has faced legal troubles. In 2020, West entered a drug rehabilitation program in Florida after a photo of him standing along the side of a road asking for money went viral. Earlier that year, videos circulated on social media that showed West being physically assaulted on the street before being placed in handcuffs.

West played eight seasons in the NBA from 2004 to 2012 after being drafted out of St. Joseph’s University by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2004 NBA Draft. After three seasons in Boston, he was traded to the Seattle Supersonics as part of a five-player trade that brought star guard Ray Allen to the Celtics.

After a half-season with the Supersonics, he was traded to the Cavaliers in February 2008 in a massive three-team trade that brought him, Wally Szczerbiak, Ben Wallace and Joe Smith to the Cavaliers as added reinforcement behind former Cavaliers superstar LeBron James. West played two-and-a-half seasons with the Cavs and returned to Boston for the 2010-11 NBA season before playing one final season with the Dallas Mavericks from 2011-12.

For his career, West averaged 9.7 points, 3.6 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game in 27.4 minutes across 432 games, including 258 starts.
