CLEVELAND, Ohio — Jarrel and Tyrel Miller have been two of the top wrestlers in the state for three years at St. Edward.

The twins announced Monday they would be going from one wrestling powerhouse to another, trading in green for black with a commitment to Iowa.

“I am more than grateful to announce my commitment to the university of Iowa. It’s been a long journey with wrestling, and it’s just a dream come true for me to get this far,” Jarrel wrote on Instagram. “I want to thank my family for everything they do for me and for all the love and support. I also want to thank my coaches and teammates for believing in me. Thank you to coach Brands and Morningstar for believing in me. With that being said, go Hawks!”

A little while later Tyrel made his own announcement.

“I’m blessed to announce that I will be going to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Iowa. I want to thank my family, friends, coaches, and all those who have supported me along this tremendous journey,” Tyrel Miller said in his post. “I am excited to see what the future holds for me. Go Hawks!”

The twins picked Iowa over Ohio State, Iowa State and NC State. They are the first Eagles to commit to Iowa in more than 30 years.

The Hawkeye program still has its fingerprints on St. Edward’s success, however. Eagles head coach John Heffernan went on to become a two-time All-American at Iowa after his 1984 OHSAA state title. After winning back-to-back state championships in 1981 and 1982, his older brother, Jim, became a four-time All-American, a three-time NCAA finalist and won the NCAA title in 1986.

Both of the Miller twins made the state final in March, but fell short of a state championship. They have 200 high school wins combined: Tyrel is 95-31, Jarrel is 105-17.

The twins, ranked Nos. 57 and 86 on MatScouts’ most recent class of 2025 big board, double the size of the Hawkeyes’ current 2025 recruiting class, joining No. 6 Leo DeLuca and Colorado’s Leister Bowling.
