Working out outside: fun or a pain?

By Claudia Dimuro

There are some people who like to sweat as much as humanly possible by doing a series of movements called “exercise.” People partake in this activity for a variety of reasons, but due coronavirus closures and exposure risk, people have been forced out of gyms into the wilds of the outside world to continue . Some find working out outside fun — a refreshing take on the same old routine. Others find it annoying, full of bugs and people that get in the way. And you?

Going to the gym and doing the usual reps can get so … monotonous. Being adventurous — or, dare we say, spontaneous — and taking those reps to the great outdoors can be a great way to jumpstart your motivation in working out.

The fresh air, the sunshine, the great blue sky — as you’re doing your cardio or maybe weights, just being in a change of scenery that doesn’t include the four walls of Retro Fitness can really bring a new enthusiasm to your exercise routine. Just remember to stretch, please, thank you.

But, the reason that gyms became available is to make exercising easy. Part of that ease involves being shielded from all the annoying things that come from working out outside. Weather, for one thing, can really put a damper (quite literally damp, if it’s raining) on your exercise routine. Then there’s something like people, who stand and gawk and are overall inconsiderate. And you know where they all are? Outside.

We can’t wait for the gyms to open back up again, safe havens from prying eyes and soulless children running over your mat as you’re trying to mind your business in Pilates pose. Until then … guess our apartments will make do.
