HOUSTON – It’s the start of a new work week and it looks like it will be a bit on the wet side for Monday.

Fortunately, the severe weather risk looks fairly low compared to our previous system which produced hail as it moved through last week.

By noon Monday, we will start to see some heavier thunderstorms across the area. We will have to watch any of these just in case one or two decide to become a bit on the stronger side.

By 6 p.m. Monday, most of the rain should be exiting the Houston area and moving off to the east into Louisiana.

Any severe weather threat?

Severe threat Monday (KPRC 2)

Compared to our last storm system, the severe weather threat with Monday’s setup will be lower for the Houston area. A greater threat exists to the east in parts of East Texas and into Louisiana. Those areas will have to watch out for all severe hazards, including large hail, damaging winds, and the potential for a few tornadoes.

The immediate Houston area is under a level 1 marginal risk for severe weather. This means one or two storms could become on the stronger side. Any storm that does decide to get a bit stronger would need to be watched for the potential of isolated instances of damaging winds.

Rainfall forecast

Rainfall totals (KPRC 2)

Projected rainfall totals with Monday’s system are fairly light. Most areas look to see less than half an inch of rain. Any stronger storm that gets going though may produce locally heavier rainfall amounts than what is shown on this graphic.
