Review: St. Mark’s Square

Photos

Despite being famously pigeon-filled and terribly tourist-trafficked, this 40,000-square-foot piazza remains "the drawing room of Europe"—as Napoleon called it—home to the eponymous basilica, the Doge's Palace, St. Mark's Library, the Campanile (bell tower), and the Correr and Archeological museums. If you want to have it to yourself, visit at dawn or in the wee hours of the morning.
