Part bistro, part your best friend's dining room, Bandini's has a distinct neighborhood feel. With 10 tables and a few bar stools plus the outdoor terrace, it lends itself equally well to stopping in for a cheeky glass of wine after work as it does to sticking around until long past dinner time. The natural wine craze is in full force in Barcelona, and few places keep the city's natty addicts as well-hydrated as Bandini’s. With Catalonia making its name as one of Europe’s leading natural wine-producing regions, it’s no surprise that a lot of what’s on offer is local, with some added options from further afield (France, especially). It’s also a restaurant in its own right: While Carmen from Andalucia keeps the glasses clinking in the dining room, Povel from Sweden is spinning the plates in the kitchen. Povel’s recurring seasonal classics include the cavatelli with oxtail, black pepper, and mushrooms, and the just-sweet-enough Eton Mess meringue with lime cream and pistachio crumble for dessert.

Cellarer Wine Bar
$Combine the cool friend who always plays great music with the welcoming friend who always throws great dinner parties—and now imagine you’re chilling in their living room. Cellarer is a cozy, warm-hearted spot in Barcelona with a great soundtrack and Latin-meets-shabby-chic decor: chalkboards, tropical-print crockery, and bills delivered in old cigar tins. The menu consists of a fairly standard selection of tapas such as croquettes and patatas bravas, and some more exciting dishes like the zucchini carpaccio with sun-dried tomatoes. Giant platters of cheese and charcuteries go especially well with the wine. The staff is attentive, kind and personable; despite the buzzy atmosphere, you'll never feel rushed to finish your meal. And while the wine list will likely have unfamiliar bottles, fear not: Even if you order blind, your server will give you a sip or two to taste.

$$Público lets you know what it is as soon as you step across the threshold. The first thing you’ll spot is the trendy, contemporary interior with black-and-white geometric floor tiles and leather banquettes. Next, the giant selection of wine that lines the walls. The sign reads “cuina de mercat”, which means market cooking, and you can see it all happening in the shiny open kitchen. What’s so exciting about it, you may wonder? With a more than 200-strong wine list, 35 of which are available by the glass, there is plenty to get excited about. But it gets better: the wine is sold at retail price with the addition of a nominal corkage fee. That means the most affordable bottle can be yours for €22 while, at the other end of the spectrum, you'll come across some rare and fine labels from Catalonia, Spain and around the world. Teetotallers won't have any complaints about this place, but wine lovers will be jumping for joy and most likely coming back the next day for more.

$They say ‘X’ marks the spot. In the case of Barcelona's Tiberi Bar, the gaggle of fashionistas in a somewhat dingy street at the back of Apolo nightclub tells us something is afoot. The interior is giving pared-back, post-industrial hip, with a side of cozy courtesy of the low-lit tables and striking green marble bar. With Catalonia making a name as one of the world’s leading natural wine-producing regions, it is no surprise that its capital is overrun with natural wine bars. Some are more deserving of your time than others. Tiberi definitely qualifies in the worthwhile category, not only because its list is huge and mostly local, but also because the staff won’t look down their nose at you if you’re into the natural philosophy but not here for the funk. Tiberi is fun but not rowdy, and equally suited to a quiet weekday dinner or the first stop on a night out. Bring that one friend who “doesn’t like natural wine” and they’ll be sure to leave a convert.

Eldiset
$$A sleek and seductive nightspot in one of Barcelona’s coolest neighborhoods, El Diset is as slick as an after-dinner chaser. The dimly lit interiors look like what would result if Scandis ran out of light bulbs: a lashing of pale wood, low-hanging lamps, and the odd wine-insider’s guide—just to remind you what you came for. There are cocktails and beers, sure, but the Holy Grail is the wine selection—90 percent is Catalan. (We’ve never had a bad bottle here.) It's a well-heeled mix of couples and groups of friends. The vibe is buzzy and chatty; and don’t be put off if the place looks full—the staff has a magical way of making room, and are helpful and knowledgeable to boot. Seats along the front window are great for watching the local cool kids stroll by.
barLa Vicoca Bar de Vins
$First, there’s the small matter of finding La Vicoca Bar de Vins. It might only be a six-minute walk from Plaça d’Espanya, yet some surprising Barcelona back streets leave you wondering whether Google Maps is messing with you. Then you’ll suddenly spot it, slightly set back from the street, with stools outside. Inside, the vibe feels like your homey, rustic local bar with wine piled everywhere—stacked on shelves and piled in boxes, with a stream of new varieties constantly wheeled in. A bowl of plump olives arrives when you do, and there’s also a strong tapas menu that doesn't skimp on portion sizes; the plate of hummus comes almost overflowing and with a stash of tostadas.

$$Monvínic is the Sagrada Familia of Barcelona’s wine scene; it's iconic and dramatic (and, in this case, finished). Whereas the restaurant that used to be here is sadly closed, the retail side of the business is still alive and kicking, along with the bar (hallelujah!). So, pull up a pew alongside one of the bottle-lined walls of this temple and prepare to worship. The sommeliers here are at the top of their game. Director Delia Garcia has switched up Monviníc’s sustainability credentials, curating a selection of organic artisanal wines and cheeses you won’t find anywhere else. The old Monvínic stocked around 3,000 labels, the new one has approximately 4,500 references, the vast majority which are organic or natural, made by small-scale producers. With around 30 bottles available daily by the glass, a little wine know-how—or a basic sense of what you like and don’t like—will come in handy. Note that the list veers into unusual parts of the globe, like Slovenia and Greece.

Vila Viniteca
$$Vila Viniteca is a wine experience split in two. First, there's one of the most cavernous wine shops you'll ever see, with 8,000 bottles spread among shelves, display chests, boxes, and a mezzanine. Next door, there's a delicatessen that borders on decadent whose beautifully hung hams, elegantly displayed cheeses, and artisan canned goods will have you remortgaging your house. Here tere’s also a small bar area with a trio of tables and a sommelier eager to tempt you into trying a bottle. This also doubles as Barcelona’s most secret gourmet restaurant. (But shhhh, don’t tell anyone.) It's equally suited to a quick cheese-and-wine pit stop as it is to a two-hour lunch. If you’re leaning towards the latter, make sure you try to canned tuna belly that will ruin tinned albacore for you forever more, and don’t forget to order some pa amb tomàquet (or tomato bread), the national dish of Catalonia to go with your cheese and cold cuts; the crusty sourdough bread is made by the baker across the road, and most of the city agrees it’s the best in town.

La Vinya del Senyor
$Neighbors don’t get more glamorous than Barcelona’s most beautiful church, Basílica de Santa Maria del Mar. Then again, if your bar’s name (La Vinya del Senyor) translates to The Lord’s Vine, you can probably hold your own. The wine list as thick as a novel helps offset a space so small that bottles tend to outnumber humans. But, staying focused on what you came for, grab a stool at the bar counter or head upstairs (via the tight spiral staircase) to enjoy some impressive church-top views. In high season, the outside seating area is heaves with tourists capping off their day of sightseeing with cava and oysters. Off-season, the crowd is more local—but there's really never a bad time to visit.
BETTO/Bodega BorràsbarBodega Borràs
$$In Spain, bodega means wine cellar, but is often used to refer to a tapas bar with a better-than-average wine selection. Barcelona's Bodega Borràs fits the bill with its long marble-topped bar, barrels of wine lining the walls and the din of clinking glasses and clanking plates. The wine list consists of no fewer than 80 varieties by the bottle and 15 by the glass (the latter rotate weekly, so you’ll never get bored—or sober). Better still, those glasses start from as little as €5—while bottles range from €21 to sky’s the limit. More than half the wines are from right here in Catalonia, so if you’ve never sipped a Terra Alta, Empordà, or Tarragona, this is your chance. Despite the bodega billing, Borràs is technically a restaurant with a great wine list which serves up classic tapas like Cantabrian anchovies and squid-ink croquettes. Bodega Borràs is perfect for that casual weeknight dinner when you’ve had it with the tourist traps and just want some unfussy, honest, home-cooked food, and even better wine.

$$One of Barcelona’s best wine bars, Can Cisa specializes in natural wines. It's got a comfortable, inviting vibe, with a long communal table and an entire wall of industrial-steel wine cages that house just a portion of the more than 700 selections on the encyclopedic menu. You'll be able to sample fare from the attached Bar Brutal, which serves some of the most eclectic food in the city—so come hungry. Bartenders are very attentive and will guide you through the monstrous tome of a wine list—but make sure to ask the price of any off-menu recommendations before ordering, as checks have been known to get out of hand.

$A library that can expand your understanding of wine? That’s what sommelier Yolanda Villegas intended with the name Viblioteca, an amalgamation of the Catalan words for wine ("vi") and library ("biblioteca"). True to her word, there are vast volumes inside (around 150 different bottles) this wine bar, but this is no fusty old space. Rather, it's bright and light, with white tables, stainless steel accents, and a cute illustrated menu handwritten along two walls. Additionally, there are more than 60 varieties of cheese, which the staff can expertly tailor to your wine. Other house classics include the bikini amb tòfana (a toasted sandwich with jamón ibérico, mozzarella, and truffle), Vietnamese rice-paper rolls, and a selection of carpaccios—from the standard beef, to more creative options like artichoke, foie gras, and parmesan.

Canvis Nous
$$Let Google Maps guide you to this tiny alley tucked away deep in the medieval El Born district where you'll spot the bar immediately thanks to a warm, golden-orange glow that beckons you in from the street like a moth to a flame—or a bespectacled fashionista to a bottle of ancestral, if you will. Canvis Nous serves natural wine and glasses of beer, but the vast majority of the guests are sipping something cloudy that's either yellow, orange, or pink. There are plenty of fresh and the more traditional-tasting options on offer, in addition to some rather unusual vintages from hard-to-find producers: The exclusive Galician house pet-nat, surprisingly made from Verdejo grapes, is as fresh as can be and tastier than Champagne. If you have a particular penchant for a Slovakian unfiltered or an Austrian glou-glou, this is the place to ask for it.

Zim
$It’s more accurate to describe Zim as a wine cave than a wine bar. Amid the winding lanes of Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, a sole red sign and a weighty iron door don’t give much away. But peer in, and it’s like you’ve discovered the secret vault of a medieval castle: arched brick walls, wooden ceiling beams, eerie lighting, and a shelf stacked deep with wine bottles. Add the welcoming face of host, Francesc, and an intimate 12-person capacity, and you have the feel of an intimate dinner party. A mini tapa of sobrasada sausage spread on warm, crusty bread magically appears when you order. Beyond that, expect an excellent selection of Spanish cheeses and a meat platter (embutidos in Spanish) stacked with herby cured sausages that pair well with booze. A hearty, happy pit stop that feels like home away from home, this bar is a completely unique gem.

LIBRA - Salón Convival
$Libra is what happens when a former head barman from Soho House opens a bar in Barcelona’s hippest, yet most unpretentious district, Sant Antoni. A neighborhood bar on the surface, but with an impressive natural wine list and some fabulous bar bites, it follows that Libra attracts a fashionable crowd. Expect a heady mix of some of the coolest kids in town and old-timers from the neighborhood popping in for a quiet drink. The brains behind Libra is Manuel Sciaudone, an Italian bar pro whose predominantly local and natural wine list also includes some gems from his native Italy—like CeppaRosso, an artisanal Umbrian wine that embodies its terroir with a blend of Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Aleatico, and Vernaccia. You won't want to leave Libra without sampling the cocktail list—in particular Sciaudone’s Negroni—which happens to be among the finest in the city.
