As I boarded the skyline-dwarfing, 4,900-person, brand-spanking- new Norwegian Bliss in New York, I imagined never being able to find my way to my cabin. Luckily for me, I had booked into The Haven, a private “ship within a ship,” 95- suite luxury complex that feels like a boutique hotel, but one that has access—when and if you or your extended family want it—to everything else under the Caribbean or Alaskan sun. So while you are tucking into your third novel (and an excellent salade Niçoise) by The Haven’s pool en route from Seattle to Alaska, your 11-year-old might be shooting down one of five multistory waterslides over and over again until it’s time for dinner at Teppanyaki (a crowd-pleaser of a riff on Benihana), Ocean Blue (solid seafood), or at Q (the ship's barbecue restaurant).

Q, on the Norwegian Bliss.
