The Lyons unveiling ceremony for the bronze sculpture honoring LaVern McConnell Johnson, a local beloved figure, will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the LaVern Johnson plaza, which is directly north of Lyons Town Hall, 432 Fifth Ave.
LaVern Johnson was a local leader and persistent crusader for preservation, according to others in town. Her inspiring motto “lead, follow or get out of the way” is etched on the sculpture, which was created by local artist Christine Knapp.
The event will include refreshments, speeches, square dancing and music to celebrate Lyons’ history and community.
